I started out by gathering the class on the front rug and telling them that we were going to learn about bats. I called on 3 people to tell me what they knew already about bats, and then we spelled out "bat" on the white board.
After finishing the story I called on 3 more people to tell me what they had learned about bats from listening to the story.
I had them get up, go to their desks, and then write "bat" on the three lines provided by sounding it out and spelling it like we had on the white board.
When they were through writing I had a bat template for them to color on which I'll cut out and post up in the classroom.
This lesson covered teaching standard _____ and helped with the consonant vowel consonant spelling of "b-a-t".
Here are some of the results.
Actually being able to teach the lesson was very helpful because it gave me an opportunity to see what I needed to keep, change, and specify more. I need to be more specific on the writing portion, making the boundaries more outlined and having a line for the children to put their name on.
Overall, I felt pretty dang good about it :) Print Page in IE
